  2. Often when one is asked what pet they would like to have, everyone has a common answer and that is they want an exotic pet, especially when it comes to dogs, people want a particular breed. In the attempt of getting a cute and purely bred dog, we tend to forget the real reason we wanted a pet in the first place. The reason was so we could have a friend, a companion, someone who would love us unconditionally, someone who would shower us with licks and kisses and greet us with a wagging tail when we come back home, and yes of course a partner in crime! So, we see that all we need is love, care, trust, and loyalty and for this, we bring home our furry friends. These days many of us claim to be animal lovers but don't you think that every time you buy an animal for that matter you promote the breeding industry. Obviously, to us, this doesn't seem like anything grim, but what actually happens behind the scenes is that the parents are kept in unethical and squalid conditions. They aren't provided with basic veterinary care. They are not even given food on time nor are they taken for walks. Their lives start and end in a small cage. Moreover, breeders breed female dogs every opportunity they get. On average a female dog is bred 4-5 times a year and she is given very little time to recover from their previous pregnancies. This, in turn, makes her and her puppies suffer from various health issues and the puppies often die pre-mature deaths. Many times, breeders also bred dogs related to one another to keep their "good lineage" going. As a result, this leads to aggression and neural issues in puppies and also various disorders like hip dysplasia in G.SDs.Sometimes, people eagerly want dogs and in a hurry decide to buy one without thinking about the responsibilities it brings along. However, when they get one, they see that having a dog requires a lot of time and effort to be put in, and since they aren't able to do that, they give their dogs away. The dog may also suffer from aggression issues and other health problems, and this will require a lot of vet visits, this leads to huge bills due to this many dogs are abandoned without any treatment. Instead of all this, we can just adopt animals from shelters or even from the streets. In fact, our very own indies are beautiful inside-out and they have amazing immunity because they have been exposed to various environments. You feel self-satisfied when you save a life and you make it better by providing these animals with love, care, and warmth and in return, you get it all back in enormous amounts. If you are not able to adopt an animal you can still help one in many ways, you could passively adopt a dog or a cat at a local shelter, OR you can even volunteer at the shelter. Furthermore, you can organize fundraisers or even donate to a shelter to provide food and bed to these voiceless souls. These small things can make a huge difference in their lives, and it also makes you feel content at the end of the day.

  3.  In conclusion, I would like to say that at the end of the day it's not the breed that matters it’s about that magical bond we create with our best friends and those amazing memories we make with them, and about the warmth that you feel at your feet every night before you go to bed. It’s about how we change their lives and they change ours.

  2. Your eye opening blog re-alligned my perspective in multiple positive ways. Expensive pets have become a status symbol and few know the ugly practices behind most breeding. It is gratifying to adopt from a local shelter and contribute to a cause.
